Please rank five candidates for mayor, and don’t rank Andrew Cuomo (leaving any empty slots on your ballot makes it easier for cuomo to win). Here are just a few reasons:
- The federal Department of Justice found Cuomo sexually harassed 13 women who worked for the state over the course of an eight-year period.
- Now he’s waging a revenge campaign against the women who spoke out, using what one judge called “scorched earth” tactics. The women are forced to pay their own legal costs to defend themselves from his continuing harassment.
- Cuomo has spent more than $60M in taxpayer money defending himself from multiple charges of sexual harassment, ethical violations and ineptitude.
- Questions remain about Cuomo’s decision to send elderly patients back to nursing homes after they were treated for COVID, and about his efforts to cover up nursing home deaths.
- Cuomo unethically used “volunteers” from state government to assist in writing the book he got a $5M deal for. He continues to fight any clawback of that money.
- The state Attorney General’s office spent millions on an outside investigation into the harassment charges against Cuomo, and more than $5M was paid by the Assembly to prep for impeachment.
- He never met a big campaign donor he didn’t love.
- He refused to allocate legally mandated Foundation Aid meant to adequately fund Education in NYS.
- Cuomo supported the IDC, fake Democrats who imposed Republican control on the State Senate and blocked dozens of bills that would have helped their constituents. He claimed he had no control over them, while in reality he fundraised for them; then when they became a political liability for him they abruptly dissolved.
- In his first year in office, Cuomo cut over $2B from public schools and health care.
- As Governor, Cuomo slashed corporate income taxes to their lowest level in fifty years.
- He fueled years of MTA dysfunction by bullying the transit authority’s leaders and regularly raided the transit budget for other uses, including to bail out upstate ski resorts.
- Cuomo’s “Buffalo Billion” project resulted in three of his closest associates being sentenced to jail for corruption.
- Cuomo’s Start-Up NY program spent nearly $50M on advertising in its first year and only generated 76 new jobs.
- A 2017 journalistic investigation found Cuomo’s $25 billion in corporate subsidies had created little economic growth and were marred by a lack of transparency and accountability.
- He oversaw the loss of some 66,000 rent-stabilized apartments between 2019 and 2021.
- In 2014 he shut down New York’s anti-corruption panel after it began investigating groups close to him.
- He created a Women’s Equality Party that endorsed him and his allies, often over female challengers. The WEP also appeared designed to confuse voters looking to support the Working Families Party or WFP.
- Cuomo’s housing plan for his 2025 mayoral run contained nonsensical passages, which Cuomo blamed on a staffer using ChatGPT. The staffer then blamed his own disability—a disservice to the many disabled people who do excellent work in NYC every day.
